Joy, Dance & Music
I have memories of dancing like a maniac: ballet lessons as a toddler; I won a disco dancing contest in elementary school, to Blondie’s “Heart of Glass”; in high school circa 1988 with my friend Eric (the best dance partner), both of us dancing up a storm right up next to the speakers, song after song; at weekend Ceilidhs in the community hall off the Telkwa High Road in 1995, I’d dance so much my legs were numb the next day; at my sister’s wedding, dancing for the first time with my father & discovering he was an amazing swing dancer; and, at Star Shoes club in Hollywood in the early 2000’s, dancing to music like Bob Marley’s “Could You Be Loved” & Grandmaster Flash’s “White Lines”. It was located in a converted shoe store, no cover charge, and always packed on a Saturday night with a crush of bodies. When the clubs closed at 2am, we would go out for a meal at Jerry’s Famous Deli, famished.
Upstairs wanted me to remember the joy of dancing & good music, and to anticipate the upcoming Big Celebration. Such fun!
Bella’s dance moves below triggered my memories of joy, dance & music. Check out her & Trixie dancing to Earth, Wind & Fire’s “September” in the video embedded below.
